What is the difference between StockTwits and Reddit?

Structure. On StockTwits every post sits in a ticker's stream, so you can open $SPY and see only SPY posts, how many people watch it, and the platform's sentiment score for the last day. On Reddit, posts sit in communities: a thread on r/stocks may cover five companies or the whole market.

That makes StockTwits easier to measure per ticker and Reddit better for argument. A Reddit post can carry a full thesis with charts and replies; a StockTwits post is usually a line.

Which is better for stock research?

For a quick read of the crowd on one ticker, StockTwits, because the numbers are already per symbol. For understanding why people care, Reddit, because the reasons are written out. Both are retail crowds, and neither is a substitute for a company's filings.

What is r/wallstreetbets?

Reddit's largest stock-trading community, known for high-risk options trades and memes, and for the 2021 GameStop rally. It is one of six stock subreddits this site counts, alongside r/stocks, r/investing, r/StockMarket, r/pennystocks and r/options.

Both, side by side

Every ticker on this site has a StockTwits page (watchers, sentiment and message volume, read daily for the most followed) and, for listed companies, a Reddit page (posts naming it on six subreddits, counted every four hours). The Hype Score puts both into one attention ranking.

StockTwits vs Reddit: common questions

Is StockTwits free?
Yes, reading and posting on StockTwits is free, and it sells some extras separately. Its symbol pages, with watchers and sentiment, are public.
Does Reddit have a sentiment score for stocks?
Not built in. Third-party sites estimate one from post text; this site counts Reddit posts naming each ticker and leaves the tone unscored.
